Dundalk FC U14 2-2 Galway United U14
EA Sports U14 National Underage League Group B
Dundalk U14s were back in action on Saturday evening as they played out a thrilling 2-2 draw with Galway United in Oriel Park.
The Lilywhites got off to the worst possible start when they fell behind after a defensive error was pounced on by the visitors.
Simon Kelly’s side didn’t let the goal affect their confidence, and they slowly grew into the game as the half wore on. Their hard work to get back into the game eventually paid off, as Runako Sweetman latched onto a defensive error from Galway to calmly slot the ball home.
The sides went in level at the break, but Dundalk were the far superior side after the restart and they dominated for large periods of the second half.
Galway struggled to keep the Lilywhites at bay as the half wore on, and the hosts finally found the breakthrough on the hour mark, as Danny Putnam struck a superb free kick from the left side of the box to give his side the lead.
The hosts looked to be well in control of proceedings, but the lead didn’t last for long, as Galway pulled one back just two minutes later against the run of play.
Dundalk continued to push on in search of a winner, with a penalty shout waved away and a goal disallowed for a soft foul in the closing stages, but Galway held on to take a well-earned point from what was an excellent game, and which included top performances from both teams.
